Up for Sale: A flask of an outcross of two unrelated clones of Maxillaria kautskyi. I received my first plant of this species in 2015. Once it bloomed I was in love with it. The graceful habit of the plant, the free-flowering nature and the fragrance made me want to make it widely available. It wouldn’t self-pollinate and it took several years to find another clone. I am happy to offer flasks of this wonderful species. The blooming images are of my original plant. The auction flask is shown in the images with the tape measure. It is growing in a 24 oz plastic flask. [6178] Contents: Approximately 25 seedlings that are ready to come out of flask. The Species: This is from the Brazilian state of Espirito Santo. The flowers are about 3/4" wide. This species can be appreciated for the graceful foliage or the elegant presentation of the mass bloomings. Even more memorable is the fragrance. I started noticing the fragrance before I figured out where it was coming from. If you get within about 5 feet of the plant, there is a surprisingly strong, somewhat sweet, and quite pleasant odor. If you get close to the flowers and inhale, it is sweet. If you keep inhaling there are overtones of moth balls. Culture: This has done very well for me in intermediate temperatures with moderately bright light. I have grown it potted in a fine bark mix, but most often I grow it mounted as it displays so well that way. I water grow it with very little moisture retentive media on the mount and water most days so it approaches dryness before watering again. I was told that it benefits from a drier winter, but didn't see much difference between the performance with a wet winter compared to a drier one. Your plant will be packed very carefully, but I cannot guarantee that flowers or spikes will be intact on receipt. I want my customers to be happy, so if there is a problem contact me immediately, I will do my very best to see that it is corrected. About this flask: I take great pride in producing flasks with strong seedlings that are ready to come out of flask and have a very good survival rate. The survival of these seedlings is dependent on the conditions where they will be growing and the skill of the grower. If you are new to deflasking seedlings (or just want to see how I do it) you may want to take a look at my webpage with suggestions for taking seedlings out of flask. If you want to see it, just do a search for the phrase “deflasking suggestions.Shipping seedlings: After a bit of experience shipping flasks, I have decided that deflasking before shipping is probably the safest for the plants. I will shake off most of the medium, treat them with beneficial microbes and fungicide and put them in a zip bag. If your prefer to have them shipped in flask you must let me know that. Whether they are in flask or bagged, you should be prepared to pot them up shortly after receiving.Shipping & Handling Charge: It is the buyer’s responsibility to check the weather in the delivery area and let me know if special precautions are necessary.Packing and shipping for the first plant or flask is US $13.95; additional plants or flasks in the same shipment are only $1.50 each. I usually ship on Monday/Tuesday or Saturday after receipt of payment. The plants need to be dry to ship safely and that can take several days. I most often ship USPS, but can use FedEx 2nd Day Air if you prefer. There may be an extra charge for FedEx.Your item will be shipped with a tracking number so you can see its progress. Insurance for $50 is included in Priority Mail.If you want your item held, DO NOT pay the eBay invoice.
